Privacy Policy - zday

Effective Date: August 4, 2026 Last Updated: August 4, 2026

zday (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is built by Ahmet Sina Ustem. This Privacy Policy explains what happens to your information when you use the zday iPhone application (the “App”).

Overview

zday is a voice and video diary that runs on your device. We operate no server, and we have no account system. There is nothing to sign up for, no login, and no profile. We do not receive your recordings, your transcripts, your moods, or any usage data — not because we promise not to look, but because there is no channel by which they could reach us.

Our App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.

Information We Collect

None. We collect no personal information, no analytics, no crash telemetry, no advertising identifiers, and no usage statistics. The App contains no third-party SDKs.

What the App Stores, and Where

On your iPhone

Everything you create in zday is written to your device’s local storage, protected by iOS file protection:

  • Audio recordings of your diary entries
  • Video recordings, if you opt into video entries
  • Transcripts of what you said
  • Mood ratings and topic tags derived from your entries
  • Your settings and preferences

This data is readable by the App and by you. It is not readable by us.

In your own iCloud, only if you turn it on

zday Plus includes an optional iCloud Sync feature. It is off by default.

If you turn it on, your entries sync between your own devices through your own private CloudKit database, under your own Apple Account. This is Apple’s infrastructure operating on your behalf, not ours. We cannot read it, cannot access it, and hold no credential that would let us. Your use of iCloud is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Turning Sync off stops further syncing. It does not delete what is already in your iCloud — you can remove that through iOS Settings, or by deleting the entries in the App while Sync is still on.

Network Activity

zday makes no network requests to any server we operate, because we operate none. The App’s source is built with an automated check that fails the build if networking APIs appear in it.

Two things do touch the network, both through Apple and neither carrying your content:

  1. One-time speech model download. The first time you record, iOS downloads its on-device speech recognition model for your language from Apple. Your recordings are never uploaded as part of this — the model comes down, your audio stays put.
  2. iCloud Sync, if you have enabled it, as described above.

On-Device Processing

All transcription and analysis happen on your iPhone:

  • Transcription uses Apple’s SpeechAnalyzer and SpeechTranscriber. Inference is local.
  • Mood, topic tags, and entry summaries use Apple Foundation Models — the on-device model that ships with Apple Intelligence — falling back to Apple’s Natural Language framework on devices where Apple Intelligence is unavailable.

Neither path sends your entries off the device. On devices without Apple Intelligence you still get transcription, mood, topics, search, and charts; you simply do not see the generated one-line summary. We do not fabricate one.

Permissions the App Requests

  • Microphone — required. Recording your voice is the App’s primary function.
  • Camera — optional. Requested only if you turn on video entries. The camera is never accessed in the default audio-only flow.
  • Notifications — optional. Used only for a reminder you schedule yourself.
  • Face ID / Touch ID — optional. Used only to unlock the App on your device. Biometric data never leaves the Secure Enclave and is never seen by the App or by us.

You can revoke any of these at any time in iOS Settings.

Purchases

zday Plus is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the transaction and tells the App whether an entitlement is active. We never see your name, payment method, or billing address. Apple’s handling of that data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Your Control Over Your Data

  • Export everything. A single archive of all your audio and transcripts, free and always available. There is no lock-in.
  • Delete anything. Any entry, at any time, permanently.
  • Delete everything. Removing the App from your iPhone removes its local data with it. If you used iCloud Sync, remove the iCloud copy through iOS Settings → your Apple Account → iCloud.

Because we hold nothing, there is no data request to make of us and no deletion request to send us. Your data is already entirely in your hands.

Children’s Privacy

zday is rated 4+ and collects no information from anyone, including children. We do not knowingly collect data from users of any age, because we do not collect data.

Data Breach

We hold no user data on any server. There is no repository of zday user content for anyone to breach.

You remain responsible for securing your own device with a passcode or biometric lock, and for keeping iOS up to date.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at https://ahmetsina.com/zday/privacy and the “Last Updated” date above will change. Material changes will also be noted in the App.

Summary: zday has no account, no backend, and no analytics. Your recordings, transcripts, and moods are processed and stored on your iPhone. iCloud Sync is optional, off by default, and goes only to your own private iCloud. We cannot see your diary, because there is no path by which it could reach us.
